Actress Tina Fey, recipient of the Associated Press "Entertainer of the Year Award" for 2008, has come forward to urge that more prunes be sent this holiday season to U.S. military forces serving overseas.

Citing a landmark study by Brian Sweeney, Brian Krafte-Jacobs, Jeffrey W. Britton and Wayne Hanson, published in Vol. 158 of the magazine "Military Medicine," Fey said members of the American military were 48% more likely to experience constipation while in the field as opposed to while they were relaxing at home.

"It's an embarassing problem for anyone to raise, which is why the problem often goes unreported," says Fey, who has also been nominated for a Golden Globe and a Screen Actor's Guild award this year. "So it's really a big problem and something those who care about the health and well-being of those in harm's way shouldn't overlook."

Fey passed out copies of the article, entitled "The Constipated Serviceman: Prevalance Among Deployed U.S. Troops," at a news conference today announcing her award.

The 38-year-old comedian bested runner-up Robert Downey Jr., whose comeback was capped with the blockbuster smash "Iron Man," and the third-place vote-getter, Heath Ledger, who posthumously wowed audiences as the Joker in "The Dark Knight."

But it was Fey who most impressed voters largely with her indelible impression of Gov. Sarah Palin on "Saturday Night Live." Her cameos on her old show helped drive the show to record ratings and eventually drew an appearance from Palin herself.
