Extreme Networks Powers T-2's Triple Play Network

Slovenia's Largest Alternative Service Provider Relies on Extreme Networks Carrier Ethernet Solutions to Deliver Triple Play Services

Extreme Networks, Inc. and T-2 d.o.o., the first company to offer VDSL Internet access and triple play services in Slovenia, announced today that T-2 has standardized on Extreme Networks ® Carrier Ethernet switches, including the award-winning BlackDiamond® 10K and 12K modular platforms, to offer telephony, video, TV and Internet services to 120 cities nationwide.

T-2 launched services in Slovenia's residential and corporate communications markets in October 2005. Currently, T-2 is upgrading to the BlackDiamond 12K, Extreme's newest Carrier Ethernet offering. The BlackDiamond 12K switch features Extreme Networks' Multidimensional Ethernet, a set of standards-based features designed to address the scalability of service provider aggregation networks for business and residential subscribers. T-2 has deployed over 30 BlackDiamond switches to create the intelligent Ethernet backbone.

Extreme Networks' Multidimensional Ethernet is comprised of three key dimensions for delivering cost effective, scaleable Carrier Ethernet networks -MAC-in-MAC, the proposed IEEE 802.1ah standard, for provider backbone deployments; Ethernet Cross-Connect technology for directing subscribers to a variety of content networks; and hierarchical per-subscriber, per-application quality of service. These capabilities can directly meet the changing needs of carriers to support larger scale networks that enable increased revenue per subscriber on a cost-effective native Ethernet.

T-2, a Maribor-based company aims to become Slovenia's leading alternative service provider over the next few years. To reach this goal, T-2 needed a high value network offering. So the company deployed triple play services combining traditional Internet access with fixed telephony, video communication and 120-channel digital television using new very high speed digital subscriber line (VDSL) technologies to ensure quality of access and delivery.

"We are convinced that the combination of high quality telephony, video, TV and Internet services will create the subscriber demand to meet our revenue targets," said Matevz Turk, managing director of T-2. "Because we are building the network from the ground up, we have the luxury of selecting the technologies that will help us reach our goals the fastest. We've based our network on IP, which puts us in a position to provide better and more flexible services to end users - all at shorter times of deployment and at a lower cost. Extreme's BlackDiamond switches are at the core of this solution."

"In a growth environment, competing service providers must differentiate their offerings in order to remain competitive and increase market share," said Peter Lunk, director of service provider marketing for Extreme Networks. "T-2's focus on Triple Play services over a native Ethernet network puts them a step ahead of other offerings. Extreme Networks is delighted to have been chosen by T-2 and we look forward to the ongoing expansion of T-2's Carrier Ethernet network."

Slovenia's leading Next-Generation Network (NGN) integrator, Smart Com, is working closely with Extreme Networks and T-2 on deployment and technical support.
