English Silver At Houston Museum

Houston Museum presents Fit for a King: English Silver from the Collection of George S. Heyer, Jr. The exhibition is on view through September 16, 2007 at the Caroline Wiess Law Building.

When Houston native George S. Heyer, Jr., an ordained minister and historian, was in his late twenties, he became captivated by English silver. The works in the exhibition, generally made between 1660 and 1760 by London´s best silversmiths, are the result of a collecting effort that lasted for 25 years. As a result, the Heyer Collection is one of the most select and thoughtful English silver collections in the United States.

Dr. Heyer first lent pieces from his collection to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in 1973. With this exhibition, the MFAH honors Dr. Heyer and his collection and thanks him for his sharing it with the museum for the past 34 years.
