The Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) has received an order to supply two gearless drives for an ore-grinding plant for Minera Penasquito in Mexico. The project encompasses planning and manufacturing of the drive systems as well as supervision of the installation work and commissioning of the equipment.
The drive systems have no mechanical wearing parts and thus saves time and money spent on maintenance, ensures a high degree of availability and enables effective, energy-saving ore grinding. The order is worth 16 million euros.
Minera Penasquito in Zacatecas is a 100 per cent subsidiary of Goldcorp Inc., Vancouver/British Columbia of Canada. In July 2006, drilling in Mexico verified the existence of very large ore deposits. The mine will be completed in 2009. M3 Engineering, Tucson, USA arranged the order.
By using the gearless Simine Mill GD drives, Minera Penasquito wants to process gold and silver ores effective. The variability of the speed enables fast adaptation to different characteristics of the material which is to be ground in the plant. Due to the absence of any mechanical parts between the motor and the grinder, wear and maintenance are reduced. Shorter down-times and longer servicing intervals are the consequence and considerably increase the plant's availability. In addition, optimum starting and stopping result in lower power consumption.
The gearless drive systems will be installed in SAG (semi autogenous grinder) mills, each with a diameter of approximately 11.6 m. The power requirement is 18.3 MW. -Siemens
