HP and MTV today announced "Take Action. Make Art." - a global design competition that challenges young people around the world to create graphics for a special edition HP notebook PC.
Contest entrants are encouraged to submit ideas from subjects they are passionate about, whether it's related to fashion, music, the environment or peace.
The winning design will be selected by a panel consisting of Shaun White, snowboarding Olympic gold medal winner and one of the "achievers" featured in HP's "The Computer is Personal Again" marketing campaign; HP designers; members of the MTV creative team; and Goodby, Silverstein & Partners advertising experts.
The winning submission will then be used in the design of a special edition HP Pavilion notebook PC using the company's innovative HP Imprint finish.
"We are challenging youths to develop something more than just cool, hip designs," said David Roman, vice president, marketing communications, Personal Systems Group, HP. "Imagine that your design is a positive thought, a belief, a message you want to broadcast to the world. We want young people to show us what is personal to them by incorporating that thought into the design itself."
Contestants can submit a design along with a brief explanation at http://www.mtv-tama.com starting today through Oct. 17. In addition, MTV viewers can win cool HP products by logging on and voting for their favorite design.
"We are delighted to extend our global partnership with HP further with the 'Take Action. Make Art.' global notebook design competition," said Marc Weinhouse, senior vice president, Viacom Brand Solutions Global. "With the Meet or Delete program we have been able to illustrate that there is nothing more personal to young adults than their computers. 'Take Action. Make Art.' further demonstrates the power of self expression and their ability to be part of a uniquely personal HP and MTV experience. This competition is groundbreaking in its global scale across all MTV properties and touchpoints including on air, online and mobile."
The winner of the competition will be invited to attend the MTV Europe Music Awards in Munich, Germany, in November as a special guest of MTV. At the show, the new limited edition 14-inch diagonal HP Pavilion notebook featuring the Intel® Centrino® Duo processor technology will be showcased. The winner also will be invited to visit several HP sites, including Tokyo and Houston, to witness his or her design as it makes its way through the notebook development process.
The competition will be promoted by on-air and online activities across MTV's global network directing viewers to a custom MTV and HP website.
The notebook is expected to be available to consumers worldwide in March 2008, and winning designs from runners-up in Asia, Europe, Latin America and the United States will also have their personal expressions created into adhesive notebook "skins" available to consumers around the world. -HP news
