Volunteers To Have VeriMed RFID Microchips Implanted for Purpose of Patient Identification and Immediate Access to Personal Health Records

Applied Digital, through its subsidiary VeriChip Corp., announced today that the VeriMed patient ID System will be featured at the Pri-Med Mid-Atlantic 2006 convention at the Baltimore Convention Center.

During the three-day exhibit, physicians with VeriChip will be on hand to implant VeriMed RFID microchips in conference attendees who have volunteered for the procedure. The VeriMed Patient Identification System, which utilizes an implantable RFID microchip in combination with a handheld radio frequency identification (RFID) scanner and a secure patient database, is designed to provide immediate access to important health information on patients who arrive at an emergency department unconscious, delirious or unable to communicate.

"The Pri-Med-sponsored conventions have historically been a tremendous venue for communicating the benefits of the VeriMed system because the audience of physicians and healthcare professionals are acutely aware of the need for improving the way in which patient medical records are accessed and stored," said Kevin McLaughlin, CEO of VeriChip Corporation. "Our current participation at Pri-Med Mid-Atlantic follows a successful exhibition at the Pri-Med East convention in Boston in late October. We look forward to meeting with the many influential healthcare professionals at the Mid-Atlantic conference and discussing the unique attributes of the VeriMed system."

PriMed is a leading source of continuing medical education for physicians and sponsors. PriMed conferences are large medical conferences set up for primary care physicians in 7 major US regions. The purpose of these conferences is to allow physicians to learn most about current critical medical issues, as well as state-of-the-art medicines and medical technologies. PriMed conferences have been taking place for about 12 years.
