AT&T Inc, the nation's largest wireless carrier, has announced a planned investment of more than $35 million in the Louisiana wireless network in 2007. By year's end, AT&T's three-year investment in the state will surpass $344 million. In addition to building 19 new cell sites, AT&T is adding significant data capacity and infrastructure to increase traffic capability. Last year, AT&T built 60 new cell sites in Louisiana.
AT&T's wireless unit has delivered dramatic change in Louisiana through the expansion of the network; the synergies that come from being part of AT&T, the world's largest communications company; and the company's continuing efforts to expand and enhance its network operations. Most recently, AT&T rebranded its wireless unit on a nationwide scale.
"Our goal is to ensure that AT&T customers have the very best wireless experience possible — which includes unmatched coverage and quality of service," said Joe Larussa, vice president and general manager for AT&T's wireless division/Gulf States. "We have been working hard for many years to enhance service for our customers and provide the best-value calling plans and cutting-edge wireless devices."
New cell sites planned for 2007 in Louisiana will provide enhanced coverage to those living and working throughout the state, especially in rural areas:
* Jonesville and along Highway 124 toward Catahoula and Highway 84
* Near Mississippi Avenue in the town of Many
* Along State Road 191 and Highway 6 west of Many and Toledo Bend
* Epps, along Highway 134 and Highway 17
* Zwolle and Toledo Bend
* Village of Sicily Island
* Leonville along Highway 103
* Highway 13 between Crowley and Lelux
* Village of Cade and Spanish Trail Golf Course
* The south side of Interstate 10 near Highway 90 and Highway 98
* Town of Wisner
* Highway 1 between New Roads and Morganza
* Cypremort Point to Vermillion Bay
* Angola State Prison and Highway 66 and Highway 3190
* Highway 61 between St. Francisville and Delombre
* Along Highway 104 between Highway 26 and Highway 371
* Near the Superior Bridge along Highway 82
* Hecker Road between Highway 383 and River Road
AT&T diligently monitors the quality and coverage of its network. In addition to third-party vendors that assess the company's network performance, AT&T network engineers constantly monitor the network and drive throughout the state to ensure that the network is operating at peak efficiency.
AT&T's wireless stores also have been offering products, such as high speed Internet, since 2006. Larussa said the addition of AT&T products to wireless stores is only a small part of the benefit that comes from AT&T's growth.
AT&T recently rebranded 1,800 company-owned retail locations and completed that rebranding effort in preparation for the much-hyped iPhone launch. The iPhone, an AT&T exclusive, was launched June 29 and combines three products — a mobile phone, a widescreen iPod and a breakthrough Internet device. The iPhone combines both communications and entertainment and represents the future of mobile phones.
"We are accelerating the changes that our customers see and experience in Louisiana, and that's as exciting for the company as it is for customers and employees," said Bill Oliver, president, AT&T Louisiana. "This's year's investment in the state is part of AT&T's commitment to bringing communications services to all parts of Louisiana." -AT&T
