Musica Viva makes history in 2007 by bringing The Choir of Westminster Abbey to Canberra Theatre, Australia for the very first time on Thursday, 25 October 2007, at 7:00 PM..
International tours by the Choir are rare due to its daily liturgical responsibilities and its central role in the ceremonial life of Britian. The Choir has played a prominent part in countless coronations, royal weddings and funerals and other state occasions with its glorious music, including Handel's great anthem Zadock the Priest.
Its history can be traced back to the fourteenth century, when boys first began to sing in the Abbey's Lady chapel, and the Abbey Choir in its present form dates from 1560. Under the guidance of acclaimed music director James O'Donnell, the Choir presents an evening of sublime choral singing and ceremonial splendour.
'England's most ancient and majestic choir makes its maiden voyage to our shores. This undisputed spectacle is made even more substantial by adventurous music and magnificent singing.' CARL VINE -- www.canberratheatre.org.au
