Germany Crushes Argentina In FIFA Women's World Cup Opening Game

Germany crushed Argentina with 11-0 on the FIFA Women's World Cup opening game in China. The women's national soccer team of Germany won confidently in the FIFA Women's World Cup in China. Germany and Argentina are both in Group A. The game was played in Shanghai.

The national women's football team of Germany presented a truly high class soccer game. Each offensive and goal opportunity was basically finished with goal: to a degree that Germans started to take them for granted at the end of the first half. In the same manner Argentina took granted the fact that it's defense is very weak and that they have a problem with a weak goalkeeper.

While watching the game we were expecting a strong play from both parts, hoping that the women's soccer team of Argentina would revive the great football traditions of Argentina: reminiscent of Diego Maradona's time. However, our hopes were dashed since women's team of Argentina did not present a good game, although it seems that they did the best they could. Germany was really strong.

The quality of the game is truly unseen. The score was 8-0 on the 60th minute of the game. In fact by the 60th minute of the game Germany had 16 shots and Argentina had 10 shots. Germany had 8 out of 16 shots. But Argentina's nightmare continued as the 11th goal was achieved on the 90th minute.

In FIFA's website there is poll asking to name the favorite that will win the FIFA's Women's World Cup in China in 2007. The favorit so far is the women's soccer team of USA, Germany is Second. Watching how Germany plays today, we say that there is a high likelihood that German football players may win FIFA's Women's World Cup 2007 in China.

FIFA's website has opening remarks on the game giving background information.

"If both Germany and Argentina find the net in the Opening Match, it will be a first for the FIFA Women's World Cup. In previous first fixtures the winning team - there has not been a draw - have always kept a clean sheet. Those winners were China (1991), Germany (1995), USA (1999) and Norway (2003)."

Germany will be seeking to add to their run of six successive wins (all in 2003) and match their record in 1991 and 2003 of a 100 per cent record in the group stage. A win or draw would give Argentina their first points in the competition. They lost all three games in their only previous appearance (2003), conceding at least three goals each time. Of the 15 goals conceded, six came in the last 15 minutes.

Germany will extend their run of consecutive FIFA Women's World Cup matches in which they have scored to 11. The record is held by Norway with 15 between 1991 and 1999.

The national women's soccer team of USA will play against North Korea tomorrow and later with Sweden and Nigeria.
