Ex-Japan PM Junichiro Koizumi may come out of retirement to possibly lead new Japanese cabinet.
Speculation is mounting in Tokyo that former Japanese prime minister Junichiro Koizumi is being coaxed to come out of retirement after his replacement quit yesterday after only a year in the job.
Citing his failure to secure political support for Japan's role in multi-national forces in Afghanistan, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said he was stepping down to allow a new leader to try to restore public faith.
Senior advisers say Mr Abe's health has been suffering as a result of his job.
Mr Abe is Japan's youngest Prime Minister in decades and the first to be born since the end of World War II.
His Liberal Democratic Party will meet to choose a new leader next week. - © 2007 ABC
