Shinzo Abe Prime Minister of Japan was taken to a hospital Thursday because of loss of appetite as he complaint sick, a government spokesman said.In midst of speculation health reasons spokesman said ill health had prompted him to resign.
Abe, 52, in press conference on Wednesday he announced his quit, giving political reasons.Key government officials including Chief Cabinet Secretary Kaoru Yosano, said Abe suffered from unspecified health problems that inched to his quit.
Yosano confirmed reports Thursday that Abe had gone to a hospital, saying results of the examination were not yet available.
National broadcaster NHK reported that Abe could be hospitalized.
NHK also reported he has suffered from exhaustion and loss of appetite, and had to go on intravenous drip in the past. The report, which cited unidentified sources, said Abe had been unable to eat anything but rice gruel.
Abe has been suffering from weak stomach and while on his visits to India and other Asian countries he had asked for food easy to digest. As he returned home he received intravenous fluids at the Prime Minister residence disclosed by his close aide.
