KYLIE Exhibition Comes To Glasgow Museum

She is a global icon, whose style and fashion have changed over the years, as much as her music. And now, KYLIE: THE EXHIBITION is coming to Kelvingrove, with less than three weeks until the doors are thrown open to her legions of fans.

Featuring performance costumes, accessories, album covers, photographs, music and video, the exhibition will look at how Kylie, as a performer, has used her wardrobe to create an image that is known worldwide.

Originating from the Arts Centre, Melbourne and touring to three other Australian cities, plus London's V&A, and Manchester Art Gallery before reaching Kelvingrove, the exhibition includes around 200 objects.

On display will be 45 costumes and around 60 photographs. There will also be a look backstage, where visitors can see sketchbooks, designs and video footage showing preparations for a Kylie tour.

Kylie said, 'I've always enjoyed my visits to Glasgow and the people have always given me a very warm welcome in their city; this is why I chose Glasgow to open the On a Night Like This and Showgirl tours. Now I am delighted that the Kylie Exhibition will be coming to Kelvingrove.'

Bailie Liz Cameron, the Chair of Culture and Sport Glasgow, said, 'I've always been a huge fan of Kylie and I know that she is an inspiration to millions of people around the world.

'We're delighted that the exhibition is coming to Kelvingrove. We've welcomed more than three million visitors in our first year since our £35 million refurbishment and I have no doubt that we'll welcome many more, eager for a glimpse of Kylie's costumes and outstanding stage shows.'

The exhibition shows Kylie's continually changing image, from 1988 onwards, from the overalls she wore as Charlene in Neighbours (1988) and the gold lamé hotpants she wore in her Spinning Around video (2000) to the white hooded jumpsuit she wore in the video for Can't get you out of my head (2001).

The exhibition will highlight Kylie's collaborations with leading designers, including Dolce & Gabbana, Julien Macdonald, Helmut Lang and Manolo Blahnik. It will also feature costumes Kylie has created herself in collaboration with William Baker, her creative director and stylist, such as the pink "Dancing Queen" outfit she wore for the Intimate and Live tour (1998).

The exhibition opens at Kelvingrove on 21 September and runs until 13 January 2008. -- www.glasgowmuseums.com
