In the first eight months of this year, the company increased its sales to 1,205,300, an increase of 64,900 units, for a market share of 8.8 per cent.
The Ford Focus was the company's top-selling model in August, with sales totalling 23,600. The Fiesta, S-MAX, Galaxy and Mondeo continue to rise. The all-new Ford Mondeo sold more than 10,000 units, of which two-thirds were high series models.
Ford's sales momentum also continued in the commercial vehicle sector, where the Transit and Transit Connect performed strongly in August. The new Ford Transit – International Van of the Year – sold 15,600 units, 3,500 up on the same month last year.
Germany was the company's largest market, selling more than 18,000 units. In Britain, where August sales are traditionally low as buyers await the September 1 registration plate change, sales totalled 13,400. Elsewhere, Ford improved its sales in every other market, except Spain where they were slightly lower.
In Turkey, sales increased by more than 22 per cent, to 10,200, boosting Ford's market share to 19.6 per cent its highest in Europe.
"Our outstanding strong sales performance provides the ideal launch pad for the new models we are currently displaying at the Frankfurt Motor Show", said Stephen Odell, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe, "Unveiled earlier this week, the new Focus, Kuga and Verve Concept models have already received wide acclaim from both Press and public.
