Autism Appeal to Prime Minister Gordon Brown on You Tube

(London, UK) An appeal to Prime Minister Gordon Brown on autism and Asperger's Syndrome was launched earlier this week, on You Tube. The Autism Awareness Campaign UK is calling on Gordon Brown to launch a national strategy on autism and a 10 year plan of action on autism.

Ivan Corea, head of the Autism Awareness Campaign UK is calling on the government to build specialist autism schools in every county in the United Kingdom, launch an 'Autism Compact' so that people with autism and Asperger's Syndrome could access the labour market, campaigners are also calling for a debate on autism and the elderly - who will look after them when they grow old?

There are over 500,000 people with autism in the UK, according to estimates, over 90,000 children are on the autism spectrum. According to UK researchers 1 in 100 children may have autism.

Lee Scott, the highly influential parliamentarian who is on the House of Commons Select Committee on Health is also featured in this film on You Tube. Scott who initiated a landmark debate on autism in Westminster Hall in parliament is also calling for Prime Minister Gordon Brown to do more for all people with autism and Asperger's Syndrome. He wants proper funding to be provided for autism services.

The You Tube film has the moving Nimal Mendis song for autism, 'Open Every Door.' A cover version of this song is also on the soundtrack - British musician Rozagy, who was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome sings 'Open Every Door.'
