Ted Haggard, the evangelical pastor of the New Life Church, is being accused of sex acts towards a member of his own congregation, 25 year old church volunteer Grant Haas.

Haas has stepped forward to reveal an alleged relationship between him and Haggard. According to Haas; Haggard did a sex act in his presence while they were in a hotel room in 2006 and has repeatedly sent him sexually explicit text messages.

In an interview with NEWSCHANNEL 13, Haas claims that Haggard’s attitude towards him changed when the pastor discovered that the young church volunteer was struggling with his homosexuality.

According to Haas the sexual act relates to a 2006 trip to Cripple Creek where the pastor purportedly asked Haas if “they were going to be godly or bad that night”. The former volunteer says that meant either hanging out as friends, or buying Haggard porn and masturbating.

Haas described the pastor’s personality as that of two different people: “it was like here is this 50-year-old pastor who is the ultimate man of God and then, this 16-year old horny boy who couldn't keep himself together," Grant recalls.

Haas received various payments from the church to keep quiet about the relationship but decided to reveal the truth when the church reneged on paying his medical bills.

As a result of the investigation Ted Haggard issued a statement admitting that it was an “inappropriate relationship” but emphasizing that the relationship was never a physical one. A sentiment repeated by fellow pastor Brady Boyd who came out to defend Haggard stating that “sexual” does not necessarily mean “physical”.
