After four long years the punk world is abuzz as rockers Blink 182 confirmed rumors of a reunion tour at the 2009 Grammy Award Show.
A statement released after the show states: “Hi. We’re Blink 182. This past week there’ve been a lot of questions about the current status of the band, and we wanted you to hear it straight from us. To put it simply, We’re back. We mean, really back. Picking up where we left off and then some. In the studio writing and recording a new album. Preparing to tour the world yet again. Friendships reformed. 17 years deep in our legacy.”
The return of Blink 182 is being very well received among fans who were shocked when the band split in early 2005; a split that surprised many as it effectively ended a long string of platinum award winning albums. The band’s next album would be the first since 2003.
According to Rolling Stone, since the split vocalist/guitarist Tom DeLongue has gone on to form Angels & Airwaves, while Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker put together +44. In November 2008, after the jet crash that nearly killed Barker, Hoppus blogged that the threesome had resumed communication. Barker, the band’s drummer, has since indicated that the plane crash, which almost cost him his life in September, was a large factor in the decision to reunite with his friends and band mates.
Along with announcing the return of Blink 182; the band also took the stage to remind fans why they were missed so much in the first place. The band proceeded to rock the stage to perform one of Blink 182’s classic hits, What’s My Name Again. Making the announcement official; Blink 182 is back!
