Katie Mitchell To Direct ‘Women Of Troy’

Katie Mitchell will direct WOMEN OF TROY by Euripides, in a version by Don Taylor, opening in the Lyttelton Theatre on 28 November. The production will have set designs by Bunny Christie, costumes by Vicki Mortimer, lighting by Paule Constable and Jon Clark, movement and choreography by Struan Leslie, and sound by Gareth Fry.

The cast includes Pandora Colin, Kate Duchêne (as Hecuba), Beth Fitzgerald, Michael Gould, Anastasia Hille (Andromache), Helena Lymbery, Sinead Matthews (Cassandra), Penelope McGhie, Charlotte Roach, Jonah Russell and Susie Trayling (Helen).

An industrial port of a war-torn city. Women survivors wait to be shipped abroad. Officials come and go. A grandmother, once Queen, watches as her remaining family are taken from her one by one. The city burns around them.

Katie Mitchell directs a radical interpretation of Euripides’ great tragedy. Her work at the National includes Attempts on her Life, Waves, The Seagull, Three Sisters, A Dream Play, Iphigenia at Aulis, Ivanov and The Oresteia. She is an NT Associate. -- www.nationaltheatre.org.uk
