
The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston hosts College Night on Thursday, September 27, from 7 p.m. to midnight. This annual event is free for college students, and will feature a live performance by Thurston Moore––lead singer for Sonic Youth––who is releasing his first solo album since 1995.
The event will also include a DJ dance party and MFA mobile wallpapers, pizza, raffle prizes, and plenty of art will be offered. College Night is a social event for students from local colleges and universities to meet and mingle while exploring the museum. Last year's event attracted 3,200 students from more than 40 schools throughout New England.
• Live Music: Thurston Moore, at 8:30 p.m., Remis Auditorium
Limited seats available on a first-come, first-served basis Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Thurston Moore performs music from his newly released album "Trees Outside The Academy." Moore's first solo release since 1995, the 12-track album is comprised of lyric driven and acoustic songs with a few instrumentals––a change from his improvised/noise based recordings of the last decade. Moore is a founding member of the trailblazing alternative band Sonic Youth, which has influenced dozens of popular bands since it formed in the early 1980s.
• Disc Jockeys: College Night will also feature two DJs, one spinning dance music outside in the MFA courtyard (rain location: cafeteria) and the other spinning ambient tracks in the MFA's old European Masters Gallery.
• Opening of Walk This Way!
Students will have full access to the Museum's encyclopedic collection, as well as a number of special exhibitions. College Night marks the opening of Walk This Way, a unique exhibition that pairs an eclectic selection of shoes with Museum masterpieces, leading visitors on a treasure hunt throughout the galleries. You won't want to miss your chance to see cleats worn by Red Sox star Daisuke Matsuzaka, Marilyn Monroe's high heels, and Celtic player Kevin Garnett's basketball sneakers. -- www.mfa.org
