Health Care reform hits road block

Barack Obama promised us radical health care reform. Understandably the loss of Tom Daschle, who was indeed uniquely well qualified to push health care legislation, has damaged the progress of potential improvement to our nation's health care. But the loss of Daschle is far from the only problem.

According to recent reports from The Associated Press and MSNBC, the Senate has agreed to a version of the stimulus bill costing 780 Billion. This means that over 100 billion dollars was cut out of the original bill.

Today Reuters is reporting that most legislators are willing to drop health care from the immediate agenda. Most opponents of the stimulus bill adamantly wanted health care funding cut from the bill, and right-wing pundits like Rush Limbaugh have issued fevered and dire warnings about the danger of "socialized health care." Given this, it is a safe bet that health care funding is a major part of what was cut.

Even more disturbing congressional democrats and the Obama administration seem willing to sacrifice health care reform to pass other measures. In short, to appease republicans health care may very well be sacrificed.

This is a travesty. Our Health care system is broken. 46 million uninsured, many more under insured, and even the fully insured not adequately covered. And legislation reform for this broken system is being delayed and possibly abandoned! This is unacceptable and it is up to we the people to remind our lawmakers of th urgency of reforming health care. Our health is not something that our elected representatives have a right to play with and neglect.
