That the Obama administration is addressing this conflict so early in the President's term is a very good thing and a marked contrast with the Bush Administration, which did nothing at all to address the issue for its first 7 years.
I wonder, however, if anything to truly advance the peace process will come out of this. The United States government has always funded Israel and supported Israel without reservation or qualification, despite the fact that Israel continues to demolish Palestinian homes, expand settlements, and increase the brutality of their illegal occupation.
Will Clinton and Obama do anything different? Not likely. The entire Obama position is that Hamas is bad and Israel is our "special friend" whom we must continue to fund and support.
Without a proper and clear statement from the United states government that unequivocally condemns the illegal and brutal occupation by Israel of lands that they are not entitle to - indeed without the real threat to cease funding if Israel does not withdraw - no real peace can be achieved.
