Democrats in Senate Close In On 60 Seats

With the conversion today of Arlen Spector and the imminent confirmation of of Al Franken, the Demcorats are poised to take 60 seats in the United States senate.

This can only be greeted as very VERY good news. Not that the Democrats are all that great. They will undoubtedly fail us in many ways, and represent corporate interests at the expense of the people.

However, we must rejoice that the Republicans will be utterly powerless. Why? Because the Republicans have opposed all the moves that Economists say are central to economic recovery, because they still refuse to recognize the reality of human created global warming, and - most importantly - because the Republicans oppose any real health care reform.

At this point the road needs to be open for a real progressive agenda, real and radical reforms. Such reforms will be stopped or at least slowed by Republican opposition. Well now their opposition will soon be take away, and the needed reforms can be passed.

The road is open for a genuine progressive change in American Politics. And at this point, if Barack Obama does fail to bring real change, he has no one to blame but himself.
