Swine Flu Hits Milwaukee

As a resident of the city of Milwaukee Wisconsin, I was alarmed to learn that Swine Flu has now hit my city. Of course I'm also from San Diego originally, so both my cities are now hit!

According to Wisconsin.com:

The city of Milwaukee Health Department said that it has its first two probable cases of swine flu in the city -- one adult and one child, Milwaukee Health Commissioner Bevan Baker said Wednesday night.

The child and adult are not believed to be related. Their conditions are not known.

The Health Department has also identified a number of school children who have symptoms consistent with swine flu. The children attend several public schools in Milwaukee.

Baker has ordered the following schools closed until further notice:

# Mitchell Street School
# Riverside University High School
# Clement Avenue School
# Rogers Street Academy

The closures affect all programming, including Head Start programs, athletic activities and before- and after-school activities. Staff members who work at the schools are also asked to stay home, MPS spokeswoman Roseann St. Aubin said in a news release.

This is a personal remind for me, but a public reminder for all of us that this Flu will spread and more and more cases will be heard of. Of course we should NOT panic, but we need to be alert and safe.
