The latest public figure to support the legalization of marijuana is bombshell actress Megan Fox. Fox (according to GQ) said that she would like to see Marijuana legalized. Is there a case for such a view?
Actually there are several reasons one might support legalizing marijuana. First, it is often argued that Marijuana is no more harmful than alcohol and tobacco. Since the latter two are legal, the former should be.
Next, it is argued that we could reduce crime and lessen risks by making marijuana subject to legal control. The rise of crime during prohibition is often mentioned as an analogy here. Since, much crime is based on selling drugs illegally, and much harm from marijuana comes from other substances laced into it, there is a case here.
Finally, many argue that the taxes we could place on marijuana would be a huge boost to the economy.
Arguments against the legalization of marijuana are that it is a gateway drug, leading to more dangerous types of drug use.
Whatever one's position it is a debate worth discussiong. And as TMZ notes ... "men will listen to Megan Fox." So perhaps we will soon find that we have Ms. Fox to thank for making this debate more public.
