Filled with anger at the fact that President Obama called for a freeze to settlement expanson, extremist groups are portraying him an a "Jew Hater," and a "Muslim." Apparently for these groups, anyone who does not support the utter annihaltion of the Palestinian people (or at least their total conquest) is nothing short of a hateful antisemitic terroirst.
Such protests as these betray the fact that the policies and politics that support Israeli occupation are the laden with racism and fanaticism. If not, then why would Obama be portrayed as "Mulism" by these fanatics? As if Muslims were inherently evil. And are we really to believe that asking Jewish settlers to stop building more settlements on other peoples' lands is an expression of antisemitism. Absurd!
Normally the existence of fanatics like these "Obama protestors" would not be a matter of too much concern. We can often just ignore fanatics and be rid of them. But these fanatics control and dictate Israel policy and United States foreign policy as well. These particular fanatics are very VERY dangerous.
Of course one cannot reason with fanatics. Attempting to help these sad and sorry souls to see that they are in the wrong is useless. But for the love of all that is good could we please stop allowing them to dictate our foreign policy? Could the United States please stop approaching the Israeli=Palestinian issue with the primary aim of appeasing these crazy people?!? The time has comet to call fanatics what they are, and to change our policies and politics accodingly.
