It is an annual summer tradition. The Home Run Derby between Baseballs leading sluggers, the night before the All Star Game. After hitting 11 home runs in the first round, Prince Fielder has come out Victorious in the final rounded with 6 home runs.
Though The Tigers' Brandon Inge, and Padres' first Basemen Adrian Gonzalez were terribly disappointing. The rest of the participants did quite a fine job. Albert Pujos hung around long enough for a 3 man "bat off" between rounds 1 and 2 with Carlos Pena and Joe Mauer.
Pujols won the "bat off," but fell behind Ryan Howard, Nelson Cruz and Fielder in Round two. Howard ended up with an impressive 15 homeruns, but both Cruz and Fielder out blasted Howard to Advance to the final round.
Impressively, Fielder hit the three longest home runs of the night (488, 488, and 503 feet!), and 4 of the longest 5. It was an impressive display of power and hopefully means that tomorrow's All Star Game will equally impressive.
The National League has not won any of the last 12 All star games. This is crucial as the League that wins the All Star game will have home field advantage for the world series; hopefully Fielder can lead his league to victory.
