Baseball is our national pastime. The game has always been seen and describe as a metaphor for America. It would that, taking this connection, this years All star game pre-game ceremonies are attempting to build national spirit and increase American Optimism.
First the crowd and all of us watching received a message from the 5 living presidents: Obama, George W. Bush - who I was not happy to hear from, Bill Clinton, George H. W. Bush, and Jimmy Carter. This was followed by a rather poor version of the National Anthem by Sherl Crow, and then a flight over the stadium by a B2 bomber. A great deal of positive patriotism.
More exciting than any of this was the appearance of the Hall of Fame Cardinals. These fellows accompanied President Barack Obama to throw the first pitch.
The President, who is left hand, through a succesful first pitch. In other words, the pitch made it to the plate and into the glove of Albert Pujols, who then embraced the President.
The president wore a Chicago Whitesox jacket. Nice to see that the President remains faithful to his hometown team.
But now let the game begin, and let's see if the National League can end their losing streek.
