American League wins All Star game again

One may be forgiven for believing that the National League is cursed. The American League won the All Star game for the the 12th straight time. And once again it was painful loss. The NL lost by one run ... again.

When all was said and done it was a fine All Star game. In a moment that will haunt the National league for the rest of the season and into next years game: The America League's Carl Crawford robbed Jonathan Papelbon of a home run, actually pulling the ball back from over the fence!

This almost seems like Divine intervenion! The National League has not , going back to 1996 been able to catch a break or win an All star game. And this despite that fact that so many of these games have been one run affairs.

The San Diego Padres seem particularly cursed in the Summer classic. Padres Pitchers have now been the losing pitcher in 3 out of the last 4 all Star games. Trevor Hoffman in 2006 - Hoffman pitched a scoreless 6th in tonight's game -, Chris Young in 2007, and tonight Health Bell. Bell gave up one run in the 8th after surrendering a one out triple to Curtis Granderson, who the scored on a sacrifice fly to right field.

As usual Marianno Rivera picked up the Save for the American league. Rivera has now pitched in 8 All star games for a total of 8th scoreless innings. In those 8 innings he has given up only 5 hits, NO WALKS, and has acquired 4 saves in 4 chances. Rivera is nearly unbeatable in the regular season and is apparently totally invincible in the All star game. Eventually the National League will win an All star game again ... but right now it must seem like a nightmare that they cannot wake up from.
