Lorna Simpson Visits Saint Louis Museum

The Saint Louis Art Museum is pleased to welcome acclaimed artist Lorna Simpson, together with author and art history professor Gwendolyn DuBois Shaw, to the Auditorium for a free lecture October 4 at 7 p.m

Simpson first became well-known in the mid-1980s. Her work continues to challenge conventional views perceptions of gender, identity, culture, history, and memory through provocative combinations of photography and text and also film and language.

Shaw is an associate professor of the history of art at the University of Pennsylvania and author of exhibition catalog Portraits of a People: Picturing African Americans in the Nineteenth Century. Shaw is active in the African American studies community. -- www.stlouis.art.museum
