Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra is proud to welcome its new Young Conductor in Association, Matthew Wood. Matthew was selected by the musicians of the Orchestra following a rigorous audition procedure in June.
Matthew has been associated with music since the age of six. Originally from Australia, he plays a number of instruments including the piano, organ and trumpet. After graduating with honours from the University of New South Wales, where he studied music majoring in composition, he received a number of scholarships to undertake a post-graduate course at the Sydney Conservatorium, tutored by renowned conductor Jorma Panula. He has gone on to receive numerous awards while conducting Australia's finest orchestras.
For the past two years Matthew has held the Junior Fellow in Conducting post at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, which gave him the opportunity to work with the London Symphony Orchestra as part of its Conductor Discovery scheme.
We extend a warm welcome to him and hope that he has a prosperous and enjoyable time at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. -- www.bsolive.com
