NCR Corporation today announced the newest version of its flagship automatic identification and data collection (AIDC) software platform.
NCR TransitionWorks 5.2 features enhancements that improve the ability of users to quickly and readily design, draw, deploy and manage traditional and mobile business solutions using radio frequency identification (RFID), bar-code scanning, biometrics and other AIDC technologies.
"More than just middleware, NCR TransitionWorks provides a rapid process development environment that has been deployed in hundreds of sites worldwide,"Â said Ken Hamlin, managing director, NCR AIDC Solutions Group. "Version 5.2 enables business analysts and developers to be even more productive and offers faster throughput of information during operation."Â
Key enhancements with NCR TransitionWorks 5.2 include:
- Device integration - The software components that manage data input and output from AIDC devices such as RFID readers or bar-code scanners have been improved for better control and faster processing. A set of additional reader services has also been incorporated, expanding the number of RFID readers supported by TransitionWorks.
- Graphical process modeling - One of the most powerful features of NCR TransitionWorks, graphical process modeling (GPM) improves the ability of non-programmers to readily design, draw and deploy AIDC operations. Version 5.2 enhances the user's ability to convert legacy process flows to a GPM view and improves documentation needed to meet Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
- Device user interfaces - NCR TransitionWorks 5.2 includes enhancements to the platform's HyperText Markup Language (HTML) templates to allow expressions and conditional statements in HTML. Voice recognition extensions have also been incorporated into the HTML templates, adding to the set of AIDC devices supported by TransitionWorks.
- Advanced XML capabilities - The Extensible Markup Language (XML) capabilities of TransitionWorks have been enhanced to allow XML files to be used as a miniature database in a TransitionWorks-built application. This can allow users to avoid the overhead of a conventional database and improve the efficiency of AIDC operations.
Besides offering NCR TransitionWorks as a development environment, NCR has leveraged the platform to build a portfolio of turnkey AIDC solutions targeted for the consumer goods manufacturing, distribution and retailing industries.
In addition, NCR's Systemedia Division provides RFID tagging solutions that enable consumer and package goods manufacturers to comply with retailer mandates for marketing at the case and pallet level as well as item-level tags for merchandise visibility in the store. Teradata, a division of NCR, offers data warehousing and analytics solutions that enable enterprises to effectively utilize the detailed data collected via RFID and other AIDC technologies.
