The three-day event will feature a careers expo to raise awareness of science issues and careers specific to the mid-west.
Festival coordinator Skye Kelliher says a shortage of science graduates is a serious problem for regional areas where almost all industries rely on science at some level.
She says there are many career opportunities in science within the region.
"Science is all around us all day every day in everything that we do, so we think that's really important for students and the general public to understand," she said.
"There's a lot of science happening all the time in Geraldton, so we've got a lot of local representatives, approximately 70 people from about 30 different organisations coming to Geraldton Senior College to showcase the science that they use in their day-to-day jobs." © 2007 Australian Broadcasting Corporation
