Susa's Dangerous Liaisons, an opera in two acts with an English libretto by Philip Littell is based on the novel Les Liaisons dangereuses by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos and is set in France shortly before the French Revolution.
First performed by San Francisco Opera in 1994, it is a tale of seduction, revenge, and human malice by Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont, two decadent aristocratic rivals who use sex as a weapon to humiliate and degrade.
