The Department of Music and Dance in the School of Fine Arts presents the KU Wind Ensemble on Friday, September 28, 7:30 p.m. at the Lied Center of Kansas.
This concert marks the first KU performance for the Wind Ensemble's new director, Scott A. Weiss. Weiss comes to the University of Kansas from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, where he was Associate Director of Bands.
"For my first concert at KU, I selected a program of music that will highlight the virtuosity and versatility of one of the nation's finest collegiate wind bands," said Weiss. "The concert will feature a wide variety of music, including that from the standard repertoire for wind band, a new work that we commissioned by Cindy McTee, a wonderful Serenade for 13 solo winds by Richard Strauss, and the debut of clarinetist Stephanie Zelnick, KU assistant professor of clarinet. While the program does not have an overt theme, I intentionally chose music that I am particularly fond of. In this way, I think of this program as being 'a few of my favorite things.'"
Tickets for this concert are $7/general admission and $5/senior citizens and students. -- www2.ku.edu
