Sung in English, The Magic Flute is a glorious mix of myth, ritual and pantomime, with melodies as enchanting as the plot is mysterious. A combination of the sublime and the mysterious, characters include the heroic, noble Prince Tamino, a radiant Princess Pamina, a scene stealing birdcatcher Papageno, who eventually finds his love match Pappagena, and the seductive three ladies.
The Magic Flute is packed full of operatic favourites, including one of the most spectacular of operatic arias - the magnificently evil Queen of the Night - reaching higher and higher in her fury!
Swansea City Opera (SCO) has built a fine reputation for high-quality touring theatre since its inception in March 2004 and will employ the same successful team to deliver a new witty translation to equal that of their much acclaimed versions of The Daughter of the Regiment and The Barber of Seville. -- www.northdevontheatres.org.uk
