On 23 January 2008 the historic Hofburg Palace in Vienna will be hosting a Russian Ball with the support and participation of Maestro Gergiev.

The aim of this new international project is to develop cultural dialogue between Russia and Austria, showcasing Russia´s artistic values in a new historical context.

The programme for the ball includes performances by the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra and Ballet Company, soloists Anna Netrebko and Ulyana Lopatkina, invited by the maestro, soloists from the Wiener Philharmoniker with which Maestro Gergiev frequently collaborates, the ballet companies of the Wiener Staatsoper and the Volksoper, Vienna´s Ambassade orchestra, the Don Cossacks Chorus and the Tsarskoe Selo Court Orchestra, dressed in historic costumes.

Among the almost four hundred guests there will be representatives of the international business elite, politicians, renowned cultural figures and members of the aristocracy. Funds raised from a lottery will be used to encourage young talents in Russia and Austria.

This second Russian ball in Vienna is a confirmation and continuation of a new tradition of art celebrations and valuable cultural dialogue, bringing people together in the name of Beauty and Kindness. -- www.mariinsky.ru
