Roger McGough, Brian Patten Return To Everyman Theatre

Roger McGough and Brian Patten return to the Everyman Theatre to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the revolutionary poetry collection The Mersey Sound. These two legendary poets will be regaling the audience with their Top Twenty most requested poems as they return to their spiritual home on Hope Street.

40-LOVE is on at the Everyman on Friday October 19 (sold out) and, due to overwhelming box office demand, on Saturday October 20 for an extra performance.

With the publication of The Mersey Sound in 1967, Roger McGough, Brian Patten and the late Adrian Henri turned verse on its head and filled college and theatre gigs to capacity up and down the country. Since then, one million copies have been sold, making it the country's best-selling anthology of verse. This year the team were given the ultimate accolade as Penguin Modern Classics re-published the collection to its extraordinary impact.

Roger McGough wowed a sold-out Playhouse last year with his one-man autobiographical show Said and Done. Presenter of Radio 4's Poetry Please, Roger also has a distinguished musical career having scored a number 1 hit with Lily the Pink and contributed to the film script for The Beatles' Yellow Submarine. His poetry remains as vital and influential as ever and his most recent volume, Selected Poems, was published last year.

Brian Patten's lyrical poetry deals primarily with themes of love and relationships, notably in 1981's Love Poems, perhaps his best known work. His vivid and outrageous sense of humour has also led him to compile several collection for children, including Gargling with Jelly and Thawing Frozen Frogs. -- www.everymanplayhouse.com
