You don't get a more credible start to your career than Eddie Amoo; his band, The Chants, made their debut appearance at The Cavern in Liverpool, playing three songs in the middle of a Beatles gig. That band went on to become The Real Thing and on Saturday 6th October they can be seen, not at The Cavern this time, but at the Landmark Theatre, Ilfracombe.
It was 1962 when The Chants supported The Beatles. Fourteen years later Eddie finally had his first hit, alongside his brother Chris as a member of The Real Thing, Britain's first disco band.
The band had already appeared on Opportunity Knocks and Top of the Pops and were favourites on both sides of the Atlantic when You To Me Are Everything took them to number 1 in Britain in 1976. This was followed to the top of the charts by Can't Get By Without You and Feel The Force.
Britain's disco pioneers also perform classic covers of favourites such as Celebration, Ladies Night and Ain't No Stopping Us Now as part of this classic night of pure 70's pop. -- www.northdevontheatres.org.uk
