Merseyside Maritime Museum is displaying a selection of portraits from the 100 Heads Thinking As One collection by Liverpool-artist Anthony Brown from 22 September to 28 October 2007.
You are invited to send a reporter and photographer to preview the exhibition at 1030 hours this Friday 21 September 2007. Anthony Brown and museum staff will be available for interview.
The museum is hosting nine of the 100 portraits and features images of Sara Wilde, Joe Ankrah, Wai McWatt, Tom Simpson, Alan Bleasdale and Angela Heslop. The exhibition also includes previously un-seen portraits of George Melly, Gareth Abbott and Bill Citrine.
The Merseyside Maritime Museum is the latest in a series of venues to show a version of 100 Heads Thinking As One. The exhibition has been on display throughout 2007 in a variety of different places, which combined have created the largest exhibition of its kind staged in North West England.
Brown's work is a tribute to the many talented people the city has produced from musicians to writers, lawyers to artists. Employing a collage technique, he uses documents, images and press cuttings to form the many layers of each image. Many of the backgrounds include personal information on the subject such as birth and school certificates, family photographs and related news articles.
The subjects for his paintings are the artist's personal choice, based on their profound contribution to Liverpool and their individual characteristics reflecting strength and spirit. The collection reflects just some of the people Brown and his wife have come into contact with over the years and who have had a great effect on their lives. -- www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk
