Theater Wit presents the Chicago premiere of the action-packed satire, MEN OF STEEL, written by Qui Nguyen and directed by Artistic Director Jeremy Wechsler. Opening at Theatre Building Chicago, MEN OF STEEL is scheduled to run until Sunday, October 28, 2007. MEN OF STEEL features Captain Justice and his superheroes as they fight for truth and the American Way in a post millennium world .
MEN OF STEEL is a startling tale of infinite power and ultimate sacrifice that spins the superhero genre on its head. Time Out New York says ".....superheroes and the American Way are taken to extremes that make Tim Burton's Gotham City look like Disney World". The story focuses on the friendship between Captain Justice and Maelstrom, a wealthy playboy. These courageous crusaders attempt to save their neighborhood from the increase in violent crime. Captain Justice¹s sidekicks include Bryant, a drag queen with a heart of gold and a body of lead and Lady Liberty, who may be a public relations gimmick. MEN OF STEEL features astounding adventures and death defying fight choreography.
The cast includes Rob McLean as Captain Justice and E.B. Smith as Maelstrom. Rounding out the cast are Ann Dunlop, Bryson Engelen, Dana Cruz, David Roby, Edgar Sanchez, Erin Myers, Frederick Harris, Ian Forester, John Luzar, Kelly Ristow, and Sara Hoyer. The designers are Sam Porretta, set; Laura B. Kollar, costumes; and Jeremy Getz, lights. Fight choreographers are Kevin Murphy and Tony Sancho. Production stage manager is Kelly McDowell.
Qui Nguyen is a Brooklyn based writer. He is Co-Artistic Director of the award-winning Vampire Cowboys Theatre Company. Mr. Nguyen is a co director of Ma-Yi Writers Lab and a member of Youngblood and a Recognized Advance Actor/Combatant with the Society of American Fight Directors.
Artistic Director Jeremy Wechsler is the founder of Theater Wit. Last season, he produced the Jeff nominated THOM PAIN (based on nothing). Past Theater Wit productions include TWO FOR THE SHOW and the annual THE SANTALAND DIARIES. Dedicated to producing shows of humor and intelligence. Jeremy Wechsler produced and directed W.
