The second annual Voice of the Nation Benefit Concert will take place on Sunday 7 October at 15:00 at the Artscape Theatre. The proceeds of this concert will support the activities of the Cape Town Opera Voice of the Nation Vocal Ensemble.
The Cape Philharmonic Orchestra will be conducted by Chris Dowdeswell..
The concert, sponsored by Ukhamba Communications for the second time, will be broadcast on SABC 1 in the programme Imizwilili (Sweet Melodies). It will give Cape Town audiences the opportunity to hear the individual voices that make up the glorious sound of the Voice of the Nation Vocal Ensemble, as well as to enjoy many favourite opera choruses, ensembles and some lighter and traditional works.
This includes choruses from Faust, Don Carlo and I Lombardi, ensembles from Lucia di Lammermoor, Fidelio and Norma, as well as the ever-popular songs including Sunrise Sunset from Fiddler on the Roof.
The Voice of the Nation Vocal Ensemble is trained and prepared by the newly-appointed chorus master, Albert Horne, who has recently returned to Cape Town from post-graduate studies in London.
The concert will be directed by Cape Town Opera's Artistic Manager, Christine Crouse, and the design will be by Michael Mitchell. -- www.capetownopera.co.za
