Showcasing new and old musical partnerships, Idan and guest artists will celebrate the universal language of music. The concerts, which are part of the Daniel Pearl Music Days, will take place at the Museum of Jewish Heritage—A Living Memorial to the Holocaust on October 8, 9, and 10 at 7 p. m. Idan will be joined by Colombian singer/songwriter Marta Gómez, New African Jazz and Soul artist Somi, Ethiopian¬Israeli singer Cabra Casay, and percussion master Itamar Doari.

About the Artists
When conscripted into the Israeli army at age 18, Idan Raichel chose not to fight on the front lines. He joined the Army rock band and tour ed military bases, perfor ming covers of Israeli and Europea n pop hits. After he was discharged, Idan worked as a counselor at a boarding school for immigrants and troubled youth, meeting young people from Ethiopia who wer e part of Israel's growing community of Ethiopian Jews.
Fascinated by Israel's diversity, Ida n started to attend Ethiopia n clubs, syna gogues, and ceremonies. When he bega n to compose and produce musical recordings, Idan collaborated with over 70 friends and collea gues from around the world, and the Idan Raichel Project was released in November 2006. The New York Times na med the album, one of the best world music albums of 2007; the CD went multi¬platinum in Israel, receiving Best Single, Artist of the Year, and Best Album a wards. Marta Gómez has perfor med her mix of Caribbea n and South Amer ican music with musicians such as Bonnie Raitt and John Mayer. Her 2004 album Cantos de Agua Dulce was nominated for the Billboard Latin Music Awards.
The Boston Phoenix called her the "Best National World¬Music Artist of 2006." Somi, a perfor mer who has lived in Za mbia, Kenya, and Tanzania, has performed in such venues as the Blue Note, Atlanta Jazz Festival, and Chicago's South Shor e Jazz Festival and alongside notables like Cassandra Wilson, Roy Hargrove, and Mos Def. She has been profiled on CNN International, and has worked with the Rwanda Ministry of Culture and United Nations Development Progra m on various creative projects. -- www.mjhnyc.org
