AT&T Teams to Promote Parent-Teen Communication

Parent Chronicles Program Encourages Parents to Understand Teens' Technology Habits and Tools to Help Reduce Risky Behaviors

AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) and the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) today announced a collaborative effort to support the Parent Chronicles initiative. This new program, which is part of the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign, is designed to help parents better understand teenagers' communications habits and prevent risky behavior by their children.

According to research studies, teens say parents are in the dark about what they do on the Internet and how they communicate with each other. The goal of the Parent Chronicles is to educate parents about their teen's world, including teens' use of technology, and help parents gain insight into the pressures and influences that a child is exposed to on a daily basis.

As part of its commitment, AT&T will promote the Parent Chronicles initiative's anti-drug message through wireless customer bill inserts and messages; permission-marketing, including e-newsletters and direct mail; and a series of other communications. AT&T will also support a co-branded newspaper insert for parents, "Do You Speak Teen?," that will appear in USA Today Sept. 25 and Oct. 4. The insert is intended to inform parents about text messaging and typical teen lingo and how to help keep their children drug-free by understanding their "language."

"AT&T is helping parents better understand how teens communicate today and the importance of staying informed about the technologies teens use," said Scott Burns, deputy director, National Drug Control Policy. "Through this partnership, the Media Campaign can reach millions of AT&T customers with important messages about preventing youth drug use."

This partnership underscores AT&T's commitment to educate and empower parents about resources to protect their families.

"Our commitment to the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign goes hand in hand with being a responsible member of the communities we serve," said David Christopher, chief marketing officer, AT&T Mobility. "We are committed to providing our customers with access to the resources and information they need to help keep their families safe and drug-free."-AT&T
