KPN is deploying additional Tekelec EAGLE 5 Integrated Signaling Systems to expand its signaling network capacity and support SIGTRAN (signaling system 7 over Internet protocol, or SS7 over IP) and a next-generation architecture.
KPN Global Carrier Services provides wholesale voice over Internet protocol (VoIP), signaling interconnect and value-added services internationally. The mobile group of KPN
previously has deployed the EAGLE 5 ISS in its fixed network in The Netherlands as well as the Tekelec mobile number portability solution. KPN-owned Telfort also has deployed the EAGLE 5 ISS as well as network monitoring, a Tekelec Integrated Application Solutions (IAS) offering.
“We are extending our relationship with Tekelec because we have come to rely on the company’s experience, quality and cost-effective solutions,” said Edwin A. D. van Ierland, managing director, KPN Global Carrier Services. “We replaced our previous signaling equipment because of capacity constraints and its inability to support SIGTRAN—capabilities inherent in the EAGLE 5 ISS. With Tekelec, we now are able to provide customers with the next-generation services they require.”
The Tekelec EAGLE 5 ISS supports SIGTRAN signaling, which is a stepping stone for cost-effectively migrating to IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) at the signaling layer. SIGTRAN provides increased capacity over IP—resulting in reduced link quantity requirements, more efficient bandwidth utilization, enhanced services and reduced transport cost. Together, these benefits allow operators to offer their customers new, more advanced services at competitive prices.
“We at Tekelec value our long-standing relationship with KPN,” said Wolrad Claudy, managing director for Tekelec operations in Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia, Australia and India. “We are honored to be KPN’s partner of choice for control-layer solutions and applications and are dedicated to helping KPN retain its competitive position by delivering superior services to its customers globally.”-Teletec
