Detroit Orchestra Exhibit Features Works By Cranbrook

The Max M. Fisher Music Center will do double duty as an art gallery, now through January 13, to be enjoyed by concertgoers, tour groups and others attending the facility's variety of events. Titled Artworks II, the exhibit is located on three levels of the atrium lobby and part of an ongoing collaboration between the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the internationally acclaimed Cranbrook Academy of Art.

Featuring 35 works of different media created by Cranbrook graduate students, the project is sponsored by Daimler Financial Services and the Maxine and Stuart Frankel Foundation.

"Cranbrook Academy of Art is delighted to partner with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra on bringing the work of our students to broader audiences in the City of Detroit," says Reed Kroloff, Director of Cranbrook Academy of Art and Art Museum. "Through the presentation of the visual and performing arts, organizations like the DSO and Cranbrook are stimulating creativity and nurturing ideas that inspire all of us to be the best that we can be as citizens of this community."

Artworks II presents work by artists from many of the Academy's ten departments including 3D Design, Print Media, Painting, Photography, Metalsmithing, Fiber and Ceramics. Most of the works are available for purchase by calling Marsha Gilman of Cranbrook at (248) 645-3214. The exhibit coincides with the DSO's annual Holiday Festival, the busiest time of the year for The Max. With 11 concert programs and over 20 performances, the exhibit will be seen by approximately 30,000 people in the month of December alone.
