Autism Action DVD released in Autism Awareness Week appealing to Gordon Brown

(London, UK) Autism campaigners in Great Britain have released an appeal to UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Children's Secretary Ed Balls in a DVD titled 'Autism Action.' The DVD has been released by the Autism Awareness Campaign UK to coincide with Autism Awareness Week in the UK which runs from 1st October - 7th October 2007.The 'Autism Action' film is directed by Ian McLeod.

Autism is a neuro-developmental disorder over 500,000 people are on the autism spectrum in the UK. An estimated 90,000 children have autism. According to researchers in Britain, 1 in 100 children may have autism. Numbers are rising all the time.

Campaigners are calling on the British premier Gordon Brown to take firm and decisive action on autism and Asperger's Syndrome. Brown recently pledged to support disabled children in his first address as Prime Minister to the Labour Party Conference in Bournemouth.

Ivan Corea of the Autism Awareness Campaign UK urges Prime Minister Gordon Brown to initiate a national strategy on autism and a 10 year plan of action to include a building program of autism units in mainstream schools, specialist autism schools - even SEN/Autism academies, further education and higher education opportunities, an autism compact with employers giving access to the labour market for people with autism and Asperger's Syndrome who are able to work and campaigners are calling for a debate on autism and the elderly. Who will look after them when they grow old?

Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Leader of Her Majesty's Opposition David Cameron, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Sir Ming Campbell have all received copies of the 'Autism Action DVD directed by Ian McLeod and released by the Autism Awareness Campaign UK.

The soundtrack of the Autism Action DVD contains the moving Nimal Mendis song for autism, 'Open Every Door' sung by the Birmingham based musician Rozagy who was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. Radio stations in the UK are now playing 'Open Every Door' and the song is raising awareness about autism and Asperger's Syndrome.

The Autism Action film can now be seen on You Tube.Autism Awareness Week is an initiative by the Autism Aliance. Autism is now a serious education and health issue facing the United Kingdom.
