Houston Grand Opera To Perform At Kim Son Restaurant

Houston Grand Opera, in partnership with Kim Son Restaurant and the Vietnamese Culture and Science Association will perform at Kim Son Restaurant, on Sunday, October 28, 2007, at 3:00 p.m.

As part of Houston Grand Opera's Song of Houston project, Houston Grand Opera Studio artists will perform a free program at the Kim Son Restaurant at 2001 Jefferson. The evening will showcase the Vietnamese movement of The Refuge, a new work commissioned by Houston Grand Opera.

Presented in conjunction with the Vietnamese Culture and Science Association, the evening will also include readings, and special musical performances featuring traditional Vietnamese music and dance. The Refuge tells the stories of extraordinary journeys by people from Houston's African, Central American, Indian, Mexican, Pakistani, Soviet-era Jewish and Vietnamese communities. With music by composer Christopher Theofanidis and libretto by poet Leah Lax, The Refuge paints a portrait in words and music of Houston's vibrant diversity.

This new work will be premiered at the Wortham Theater Center on November 10, 2007 and will be performed by the Houston Grand Opera Orchestra, Chorus and Children's Chorus, and artists from the Houston Grand Opera Studio, with performers from the participant communities. Houston Grand Opera Music Director Patrick Summers will conduct. -- www.houstongrandopera.org
