Tale Of Sibling Rivalry From Hot New Playwright

Actors Touring Company, hot on the heels of their production of Bad Jazz at Unity Theatre earlier this year, make their debut at the Everyman with the European première of The Brothers Size. This earthily poetic portrayal of brotherly love in the Deep South comes from the pen of much vaunted American playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney and is directed by Liverpool-born Bijan Sheibani.

The Brothers Size runs from Thursday 25 to Saturday 27 October.

There are two brothers Size: Ogun has worked hard to get his own car-repair shop; Oshoosi always takes the wrong track. Fresh out of prison, Oshoosi dreams of freedom and faraway places. When his ex-cellmate Elegba presents him with a clapped-out old car, freedom seems to be just around the corner.

The Brothers Size is a modern morality tale about temptation, freedom and loyalty. McCraney's earthy and lyrical writing style draws on Nigerian Yoruba Mythology to create a compelling and dream-like piece. Employing live music and stylised movement, The Brothers Size is a vivid, accessible and affecting new play from an important new playwright.

Tarrel Alvin McCraney is a hot new American playwright making his bow on this side of the Atlantic. A recent graduate of the Yale School of Drama's playwriting programme, his most recent play, The Breach, was a commission for the Southern Rep Theatre, New Orleans written in response to Hurricane Katrina.

The Brothers Size is directed by Liverpool-born ATC Artistic Director Bijan Sheibani. Appointed to the position of Artistic Director in March, this is Bijan's first production for the company. His previous directing credits include productions at the Royal Court, Battersea Arts Centre and Soho Theatre. -- www.everymanplayhouse.com
