Alberta Theatre Projects has teamed up with Western Canada Theatre in Kamloops, BC to bring audiences a musical that explores the mind of a man in love. Pining after pop superstar, Rose McKay, David Stuart may have fallen in love with a woman who hasn't fallen in love with him. But that's not what he thinks. Not only has Rose put a restraining order against him, David has violated the order and is now on trial to defend his love-struck actions. Written by internationally recognized playwrights, Paul Ledoux and David Young, Still Desire You is a fascinating look at celebrity obsession set to the music of Juno Award winning Melanie Doane.
In a time when society is increasingly interested in the scrutiny and minute details of celebrity lives, Still Desire You illustrates just how obsessed we've become with popular idols: objects greater than ourselves but people we want to desperately to be like, have contact with and adore.
Melanie Doane is a well-known Canadian musician with a strong following in the East Coast and across the nation. Having released five CD's: Harvest Train, Shakespearean Fish, Adam's Rib, Melvin Live and You Are What You Love, Melanie has had multiple Top 40 hits, won the '99 Juno Award for Best New Solo Artist, earned a gold record and won the Canadian Radio Award for Most Charted New Artist (rock category). Her songs have been featured on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dawson's Creek, Party of Five and Brothers and Sisters.
David Young and Paul Ledoux are no strangers to fame themselves. Having been nominated for the prestigious Governor General's Award for Glenn, winning numerous awards (including The Dora and Chalmers Award) for Fire as well as the Canadian Authors' Association 'Best Play of '98" for Inexpressible Island, David Young and Paul Ledoux have contributed greatly to the development of contemporary performing arts in a national context.
