You Won't Sleep Through This At Queen's Theatre

After a sell-out performance in 2006, The Magic of the Musicals, a glorious celebration of some of the very best songs from the hit West End musicals is back at the Queen's Theatre, Barnstaple on Wednesday 24th October.

As musical theatre in the UK goes through a great popularity resurgence thanks to the success of shows like There's Something About Maria and Any Dream Will Do, The Magic of the Musicals brings together a selection of the finest and best-loved songs from the most successful West End musicals of all time and celebrates the enchanting melodies of some of our best-loved songwriters in one spectacular show.

West End stars Wayne Sleep, Robert Meadmore and Melanie Stace pay homage to the musical magic in this hit-packed show featuring songs made famous by Billy Elliott, Chicago, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mama Mia, Les Miserables, Lion King, Mary Poppins, The Phantom of the Opera, The Sound of Music and many more.

Wayne Sleep is a master of musical theatre having starred in the original productions of Lord Lloyd-Webber's smash hits Cats and Song & Dance and in Gillian Lynne's production of Cabaret in the West End. He has topped the bill in 16 pantomimes and devised and directed many productions. More recently, Wayne completed a stint in the London Palladium as The Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and in the jungle in ITV1's I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here! and as a judge on BBC1's hit show Strictly Dance Fever.

Also back after the successful 2006 tour is Robert Meadmore. Robert is recognised as one of the UK's finest musical leading men, having starred in many West End musicals and plays including Phantom Of The Opera, Brigadoon, Oklahoma!, Camelot, Educating Rita, Oleanna, and Side By Side by Stephen Sondheim, with whom he has collaborated on many occasions.

Wayne and Robert are joined for this production by multi-talented musical star Melanie Stace. Melanie first came to the British public's attention as Jim Davidson's glamorous co-presenter on the iconic BBC show The Generation Game which she worked on for six years. Melanie's background as a performer is in musical theatre, having starred in Gypsy, Follies, Copacabana, Crazy for You, and she played the role of April to great critical acclaim in the Olivier Award winning show Hot Shoe Shuffle. -- www.northdevontheatres.org.uk
