Dolby Showcases Sound Innovations at 2007 AES Convention

Key highlights include the Dolby(R) DP600 Program Optimizer as used for audio postproduction with Digidesign(R) Pro Tools(R) and other digital audio workstations (DAWs), in conjunction with the Neyrinck SoundCode software; the new Mac(R) Universal applications of all four Dolby Media Producer software products; and a major new software release for the Dolby Lake(R) Processor, which includes Dante Audio Networking for audio distribution over Ethernet for live sound applications.

The Dolby Media Producer and Dolby Lake Processor have been nominated for the 2007 TEC Award for Outstanding Technical Achievement in the categories of Ancillary Equipment and Signal Processing Technology/Hardware, respectively.

Dolby DP600 Program Optimizer

Available now, the award winning Dolby DP600 Program Optimizer is a powerful, intelligent, and automated system designed for file-based environments for postproduction and broadcast applications. With the new Neyrinck SoundCode for Broadcast plug-in for Digidesign Pro Tools and other DAWs, the company will demonstrate how the DP600 is used for audio postproduction. Integrated Dolby E encoding, decoding, loudness analysis, and correction within the Pro Tools environment will be shown. In addition, the DP600-C version also supports faster-than-real-time encoding, decoding, and transcoding of Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby E, and MPEG-1 LII bitstreams that can be contained within several broadcast media file formats.

Dolby Media Producer Universal Applications

The new Universal applications for Dolby Media Producer, aimed at facilities mastering audio for packaged media, will run natively on both Intel(R) and PowerPC(R) based systems, giving all Mac users increased performance. Dolby Media Producer is a set of audio mastering tools comprising four separate software applications available individually or as a suite of products. Dolby Media Encoder provides comprehensive encoding and job control in a client-server networked environment, while Dolby Media Encoder SE (Stand-alone Edition) is a single-computer solution with the same high-quality encoding capabilities. Dolby Media Decoder is the reference decoding and monitoring application for all Dolby bitstream types and listening modes. In addition, Dolby Media Tools offers bitstream and metadata editing features to avoid the necessity of reencoding files when last-minute changes to the content are made. The Dolby Media Producer products support Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and MLP LosslessTM bitstream types that are used for the new HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc(TM) formats, as well as standard DVD-Video and DVD-Audio formats.

Dolby Lake Processor

Dolby announced new features and a major software upgrade to its Dolby Lake Processor. These include Audinate's Dante technology, a digital audio networking technology that provides flexibility and ease of use. In addition, the Dolby Lake Processor now supports 16 analog inputs, and with the new input/output matrix function, any input can be connected to any output, providing superior audio routing flexibility.
